Rock Trio, Wallows, Release Single “Especially You”off Forthcoming Album

After the album hack, nothing happensThe Los Angeles-based alternative trio Wallows sought to expand their style into the streamlined genre. So, in the few years since their debut, the group has explored their sound through everything from lo-fi post-punk to indie-folk to dance-pop psychedelic of the early ’90s. After researching their new style, the Wallows finally settled on their latest single, “Especially You.”

The Wallows premiered the song “Special For You” on January 4th from their upcoming sophomore album Tell me it’s over. The group also dropped an accompanying music video directed by Jason Lester.

The singular depends on the early stages of the relationship. “It’s about when you’re in the early stages of a relationship and you’re very worried that the other person’s mind is going to change just by switching,” says lead singer and guitarist Dylan Minnette. “It’s about focusing on the smallest things for no reason, but he definitely recognizes the fact that I’m doing all of this myself.”

The release of the chorus’ song first, “Especially You,” details the innocence and nervousness of early relationships and the uncertainty of the “talking stage.” However, the song’s dance-pop rhythm and psychedelic synthesis add humor to the lyric – giving listeners a chance to laugh at themselves despite the anxiety.

Think about what you just said
Sleepless, now my eyes are red
My head can’t comprehend living in the background, wondering what you mean
This is when my eyes are red
Think about what you just said
Some things leave me confused but you especially

The music video features a colorful casual portrait of band members Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston during the video shoot, as they go through the stages from makeup and wardrobe to flick camera poses.
